The biggest racing festival in Yorkshire returns! 10 meetings over the course of 9 days (listed below):

Charlotte Russell, general manager of Go Racing in Yorkshire said,

“We really missed not having the festival last year, and the racecourses, along with our loyal sponsor Sky Bet, were determined that it would take place in some form this year.  It has been refreshing to be able to make plans again and exciting that the majority of the week will take place without crowd restrictions.”

Pontefract will host the final GRIY Summer Festival fixture on our In-The-Zone Family Day. As well as our general raceday entertainment there will be appearances from Festival Freddy our favourite mascot – always a hit with the kids!

Each racecourse will celebrate everything we know and love about Yorkshire. Expect fun themes, Sky Bet sponsored best turned-out winners, and historical footage provided by the Yorkshire Film archive with original audio!

Jockey’s will test their football skills scoring points for chipping a football into a target from different distances. This should be good following the 2019 success of ‘Paddock and Chips’ and the jockey’s having another year to practice! Tune in 1 hr before the first race in the parade ring.

Jack Berry House, the jockey and stable staff rehabilitation centre in Malton, will also be open to members of the public between 12 noon and 2pm on Tuesday 20th July, the one day of the festival when racing does not take place in Yorkshire.

Feeling peckish? Tickle your tastebuds with CGC’s festival foodie specials including the Masons Tea Edition Gin and Tonic and a ‘Yorkshire Rascal’, served with clotted cream, jam and butter with a cup of Yorkshire Tea.

Keep up to date on our socials to see how to get involved.

How we are keeping you safe and secure as Covid-19 restrictions begin to lift….

How we are keeping you safe and secure as Covid-19 restrictions begin to lift….

There are various steps we have put in place to ensure the safety of all racegoers and essential workers for each race meeting. It’s decided that our first 3 race meetings are behind closed doors. This is to comply with the government regulations on spectator capacity. Here are some of the measures we are taking:

  • Social Distancing [two-metre rule in place across the course]
  • Advance Bookings Only [no walk-ins]
  • Card Only Bars [to reduce the handling and contamination of cash]
  • Hand Sanitising Stations [to stop the spread on a raceday]
  • Social Distancing Officers [keeping you and other racegoers safe]
  • Compulsory Face Masks [must be worn on site]
  • One Way Systems [reducing the need to cross paths with others]

‘Normal’ Raceday operations will unfold in stages throughout the year. If by June 21st all restrictions are lifted – we will no longer require the above points. Until then, please be conscious of keeping yourself and others around you safe. We hope to see you very soon face mask or not!

2021 Raceday Themes

While many of our favourite race meetings will be back in 2020, we’ve shaken things up on other racedays. We are introducing Disco Night on Friday Eve 22nd May when the incredible Sister Sledge will be performing after racing. However, during racing, there’ll be a fantastic ‘funk and soul’ band performing through the evening at the rear of the second stand with a huge pop up bar in the same area. Ponte is definitely getting it’s groove on in May!

It’s Father’s Day on the 21st June and there’s no better way to treat your Dad than with a day at the races. It’ll be a proper Yorkshire Day Out with whippets and flat caps galore!

New in 2020 is our Very Yorkshire Raceday when we’ll be celebrating some fantastic events in the county such as the Great Yorkshire Show and the Pontefract Liquorice Festival. A full list of all our racedays in 2020 are available here
