Post Covid-19 FAQ's

As things slowly return to normal you may have some questions regarding racing post-Covid restrictions. We hope to answer them below but if you have any burning questions please call 01977 781307 or send us an e-mail!

Will I need to use the NHS app to check-in?

Racegoers are strongly advised to continue to check in with the NHS QR codes provided at the course entrances but this is at your discretion.

Will I have to wear a face covering?

Racegoers are strongly encouraged to wear a face-covering in areas where they will come into close contact with lots of other people, particularly indoors. This is for the safety of your fellow racegoers but remains at your discretion.

What about staff? Will they be wearing a face covering?

Staff working indoors will abide by Government guidance where appropriate but will be asked to wear a face-covering in areas where they will be in close contact with lots of other people, particularly indoors.

If someone is found to be Covid Positive, will everyone on the racecourse be asked to self-isolate?

Should an individual subsequently test positive for Covid-19 having attended a race meeting, the venue will be issued with a recommendation notice to be tested. This means that if you attended we will contact you and encourage you to take a test as soon as possible.

You will only be asked to self-isolate if this test proves to be positive. If you were in close contact with the individual who tested positive, you will be contacted by Track and Trace and asked to self-isolate as per Government guidance.

Will I need to take a lateral flow test in advance of attending?

All racecourses are strongly encouraging racegoers to ensure they are proven to be Covid Negative in advance of attending for their own peace of mind. We recommend taking a lateral flow test 24 hours prior to attending and 48 hours afterwards. If you receive a positive test, please follow this up with a PCR test.

Racegoers can claim a full refund if the event of a positive test means you have to miss the race meeting.

Do I have to prove my vaccine status to attend a race meeting?

British racing is not currently utilising Covid Certification as a condition of entry and you will not be asked to show any vaccine status.

Is Alcohol Permitted?

Similar to rules in 2019, racegoers are allowed to take a small amount of alcohol (4x beers per person or half bottle of wine) into both the Picnic Enclosure and the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure.

You are NOT permitted to bring your own alcohol into the Premier Enclosure. There will be plenty of concession stands and bars serving food and drink in each enclosure.

What facilities will be on course to help with sanitation?

Pontefract will continue to provide copious opportunities for racegoers to sanitise their hands, with alcoholic gel stations and wash basin facilities provided.

Do I still need to book in advance?

We are now accepting on the day walk-ins. However, we do encourage you to book in advance as this is the only way to guarantee your place on the day.

Booking in advance also permits considerably faster entry on the day compared to walk-ups.

Can I use cash?

All bars will accept both cash and card but encourage the use of contactless card for reduced handling of cash and quicker transactions.

Which enclosures are available?

All enclosures are now available to the public. Book now.

Can I place a bet?

There will be tote facilities open in the areas where you have booked tickets.

Alternatively, there will be a number of bookmakers on site on each raceday.

Will the raceday experience be as it was pre-Covid?

British racing has worked stringently with the Government, local health authorities and safety groups to safely allow racegoers to return. With the removal of all remaining legal requirements, we are confident that racegoers will enjoy a familiar environment with all the usual elements that are loved about a raceday: seeing elite thoroughbred racehorses and elite athletes, fantastic food and beverage choices and a variety of betting options.

We ask that racegoers remain considerate of their fellow racegoers and respect the environment that they are in for the enjoyment and safety of all on course.

Can I book a restaurant?

If you’re considering booking a table in a restaurant, please note that there will be a limited number of tables.

It is essential to book your restaurant package in advance.

Accompanied under 18s are admitted free of charge into EVERY enclosure at EVERY race meeting.

There is only a Dress Code in operation in the Premier Enclosure.

We want you to be comfortable and therefore do not insist on a jacket and tie. However, we do request that you have smart/casual attire and do not wear scruffy jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sportswear or trainers into the Premier Enclosure.

Gift Vouchers

We now offer Gift Vouchers for the Premier and Grandstand & Paddock Enclosures.

These are valid for any race meeting and can be booked here.

However, please note that no glass bottles can be brought in to the enclosures. If you would rather bring spirits, please bring the pre-mixed cans.

There are several food outlets around the Racecourse, and we have additional items available at every race meeting that can be added to your raceday tickets. There are also a number of vending vans available throughout the Racecourse enclosures.
