At Pontefract Racecourse the safety and welfare of our visitors, racegoers, participants and team is paramount. We are keeping up to date with the latest information and advice from the Government and the British Horseracing Authority and have a team ready to implement recommended actions.
We have been allocated 6 race meetings 'Behind Closed Doors'. This means that there will be no public in attendance and race meetings will be open to jockeys, trainers and officials only.

We have 6 race meetings 'behind closed doors'.
These are on:
Wednesday 10th June
Monday 15th June
Tuesday 7th July
Thursday 23rd July
Friday 31st July
Friday 14th August
When will the first meeting at Pontefract take place that the public can attend?
While race meetings are 'behind closed doors' there will be no members of the public in attendance.
We will update these details as and when the have updated information from the Government. We hope that members of the public will be able to come racing at Pontefract later in the year.
What if I have already purchased raceday admission tickets?
All bookings for raceday tickets and badges for April through to July that were made through the Pontefract Racecourse website or over the phone with the Racecourse team have been refunded in their entirety.
We will be processing refunds for those with prebooked tickets for race meetings that were planned for August in the week commencing Monday 29th June. Refunds will be made back to the same account from which the booking was made.
Customers who have purchased through third parties should contact that organisation.
What if I have a restaurant booking or have a private hospitality box?
You will have the option of either:
- A full refund
- Transferring your booking to the corresponding race meeting in 2021 subject to availability.
The Racecourse team will be in touch with you to discuss your requirements in the coming weeks
What will happen if I’m an annual badge holder?
All Annual Badge Holders have been contacted directly - if you have not received a letter from us regarding information on transferring your badge to 2021, please call us on 01977 781307.
Non raceday conferences and events
Pontefract Racecourse will continue to follow advice from World Health Organisation (WHO) and Public Health England.
As racing approaches any additional measures that are recommended will be implemented.
In 2020 at Pontefract, we have 16 race meetings with something for everyone!
Why not bring the family to one of our 3 Family Sundays? While each Sunday race meeting has a unique, exciting theme, they all also have a circus, clowns, kids rides, pony rides, face painting and even free sweets for the kids!
Our Family Sundays in 2020 are:
Sunday 21st June
Sunday 26th July
Sunday 16th August.
We also have 3 evening meetings to try too. Our two Friday Evening race meetings will both have live music and lots going on! They're on Friday Evening 22nd May and Friday Evening 17th July.
Our third evening fixture is on Monday eve 8th June.
On 5th August we have our Annual Ladies Day too!
