RED SHIRT NIGHT
Red Shirt Night is on Friday Evening 16th July
The first race is 6.35pm and the last race is 9.10pm
Red Shirt Night is an annual event at Pontefract Racecourse. It is a Charity Race Night in aid of Jack Berry's Appeal for the Injured Jockeys Holiday Fund.
When training racehorses, Jack Berry was famous for wearing a red shirt. He was rarely seen in any other colour! And therefore when we were approached by Jack Berry to hold a race night for the Injured Jockeys Fund, it was decided to call the evening Red Shirt Night.
Racegoers don't have to wear a red shirt but many people choose to do so.
All races at this meeting are sponsored. Each sponsor makes their donation to the Injured Jockeys Fund instead of paying the Racecourse. Indeed, the Racecourse make a donation for each horse that is declared to run.
Racegoers are also welcome to make a donation - please visit the Secretary's Office behind the Winners Enclosure on race day for further details.
Besides the 6 great races on this night, there'll be a live Abba tribute band!
