TUESDAY 3rd APRIL - Season Opening Day

1st race time: 2.10pm tbc

The racing season at Pontefract kicks off on Tuesday 3rd April with a race meeting designed by the Art and Graphic Design Students of New College, Pontefract. As part of their A-Level coursework, a number of students have chosen a brief to design an advertising campaign for this race meeting with one student having their design of social media headers and adverts, online and physical press adverts, a poster campaign and the racecard cover for this raceday turned into reality!

Schools are out for the Easter holidays as well on this date – why not plan an Easter day out with the kids? Under 18s are FREE in ALL ENCLOSURES – we even have some special discount Family Tickets available!

On the track, it’s the first leg of the 2018 Stayers Championship – Ponte favourite, Tuscan Gold, won the championship for the second time in 2017. He’ll be an 11yo in 2018 – will he be able to show the up and coming youngsters how it’s done again?

Don’t miss the EBF High-Rise Maiden either! With smart early horses from big yards often targeting it, it’s the first date to put in the diary! The race is named after Luca Cumani’s 1998 Derby winner who took this on his way to glory at Epsom.

Click here to book tickets from the 1st December 2017.

MONDAY 23rd APRIL - Racing Buddies Raceday

1st race time: 2.00pm tbc

Who do you go to the races with? Have you got someone who you always go to the races with? Enjoy a drink and a catch up while having a flutter on the horses? Let us know who your racing buddy is and you can surprise them by bringing them racing for free when you book a ticket in advance for this race meeting. Just by tagging their name on our social media posts, you can let them know that you’re treating them to a day at the races!

And if you’re coming racing on your own, we’ll be launching our new Bets and Banter Social Club at this meeting with our very own Wendy hosting a meet and greet area in the main Grandstand & Paddock Bar.

On the track, the 2nd meeting of the season features the equine equivalent of the London Marathon!
The Pontefract Marathon is the longest flat race handicap run in Britain! Did you know that Pontefract is also the longest continuous racing circuit in Europe? At 2m 136yds all round, you need a brave, staying horse to get home up the famous ‘Ponte’ hill!

There are 7 exciting races to get your heart racing and it’s well worth booking the day off work!

Click here to book tickets after the 1st December 2017.

MONDAY EVENING 11TH JUNE - Rugby League Evening

1st race 6.40pm tbc, gates open 4.30pm

Following the success of the events in 2016 and 2017, Rugby League Evening is back even bigger and better in 2018!

We’re lucky enough to have some fantastic sporting action on our doorstep in West Yorkshire. Not only do we have racing here in Pontefract, we have some world class Rugby League teams too.

Castleford Tigers, Wakefield Trinity, Huddersfield Giants and Featherstone Rovers were all integral in the success of the evening last year and will be back again in 2018!

On Monday Evening 11th June, you’ll get the best of both worlds as players and coaches from all these teams will be coming racing and mingling with the crowds!

If you’re a season ticket holder with any of these teams, bring your season ticket along and you’ll get entrance to the Grandstand & Paddock for just £5!

Or why not spend the evening in style with our £42 Rugby League VIP Package (children under 18 are just £10). This includes:

- entrance to the Racecourse and the Rugby League VIP Suite
- hot buffet
- meet and greet with your favourite players from each team who will visit the Suite before racing.
- racecard and viewing balconies.

It really is an opportunity not to be missed!

Watch out for ‘selfie corner’ too – you might get that one perfect shot with your team hero!

There’ll be 6 unforgettable races as well, featuring the Mr Wolf Sprint which commemorates one of the all time Ponte greats. Runners in this race have a real mountain to climb to emulate ‘Wolfie’ who ran at Pontefract an incredible 36 times. He won here 8 times in total!

He was a true Ponte legend and his brave front running style used to have his rivals in trouble from early on in the race. His final race at Pontefract was on 29th July 2012 and he’s currently enjoying retirement on his owner’s farm.

He comes and visits us though and will be back this season to parade before racing.

Book tickets here after the 1st December 2017.
