CAR PARKING
A new parking/traffic system has been in place for race meetings on and after the meeting since the middle of 2009.
VEHICLE PARKING ARRANGEMENTS
All references are to the Plan
1. Entrances and Exits
1.1 The main entrance/exit is from the roundabout on Park Road (A639) which runs from J32 of the M62 into Pontefract (see Plan).
2.2 There is a second entrance/exit off Park Lane (B6134) to Featherstone which should only be used by people using either the Picnic Enclosure (see B on the Plan) whether with a car or on foot, or to the Second Enclosure.
2. Traffic Flow – IN AND OUT
2.1 The Main Entrance will be ONE WAY IN (with traffic using both lanes) until the majority of vehicles are parked. This is likely to be at least until the start of racing but may be later.
2.2 Taxis, other vehicles “dropping off”, or anyone else wishing to leave the Park must exit via the old entrance at the junction of Park Road and Park Lane until the “one-way system” ends.
2.3 The Main Entrance will be ONE WAY OUT from the start of the last race until there is no traffic queuing to leave. The left hand lane is for traffic going to the M62. The right hand lane is for traffic going towards Pontefract.
2.4 The road way along the rear of the enclosures will also be ONE WAY IN towards the Course Side Picnic Park and Park D until all cars are in, and ONE WAY OUT from the start of the last race.
2.5 People in the Course Side Picnic Park and Park D are encouraged to Exit via the Park Lane Entrance. There is good access to the M62, J31 via North Featherstone and Ackton along the B1634.
3. Signage and Directions
3.1 All parking areas are clearly signed. Follow the signs to the Park you want to be in.
3.2 PLEASE DO NOT STOP when in a line of traffic to ask directions as this delays traffic flows. If you have to stop pull well over to allow other cars to pass.
3.3 Please follow the directions of the Car Park Staff whose job it is to see that everyone is parked safely and in such a way that they can get out.
3.4 Do not block anyone in. If you do your vehicle may be towed away.
4. Car Parking Areas and Charges
4.1 There is ample parking space for the biggest crowds except in the Course Side Picnic Park which does get full, especially on a Sunday.
4.2 Follow the signs to the nearest park which is applicable to you.
4.3 All parking is FREE except in the Course Side Picnic Park. You must not pay any Parking Attendants.
5. Liability Disclaimer
5.1 Pontefract Racecourse is in Pontefract Park. This is a Public Open Space. Cars are parked entirely at the owner’s risk. We cannot accept responsibilities for any damage to, or theft of or from any vehicle or any other loss arising whilst any vehicle is in the Park.

In the event of inclement weather, a tractor will be available to help pull out anyone having difficulty.
